Passion should be the mother of hardwork. Without passion, it would be motherless working.

I can understand a parent's dilemma when the child is contented with his lazy life. How to make s/he understand the competitive world outside, how tough things are etc. Here, I believe that the child does see the world outside quite clearly. Most of the times, it is our (parents) vision that is clouded while the children see very clear and straight. If they are acting lazy or claiming contentment, it is a reaction to something - probably to the pressures from their parents, or to the environment at school or just a fancy they developed.
