Take a beginner sewing class. When you are learning how to sew, it is best to learn from another human who is there with you to show you the basics of how to thread the machine, the differences in thread, needles, fabrics, etc. Also, if you are in a class, all of you can tard out together and learn from each other. They are offered everywhere for not that much money. I took one class for four sessions and we made a simple skirt. The lessons I learned in the class were a tremendous help in many areas beyond the skirt.
